Cloudy Days
June 30, 2007
Lately, for what ever reason, I’ve been infatuated with the sky/weather and on a recent trip to South Dakota to see the fam I was taken aback by the amazing cloud coverage along the way. So with my camera always at the ready I snapped away at the sky in hopes of getting some inspiration and reference photos. To see a few of the awesome snapshots I got click on the picture below. Interactive Showcase
June 20, 2007
I wanted to showcase a few of the interactive jobs that I’ve helped create and thought that this would be as good a place as any to do so. All the layouts and illustrations were done by yours truly. Although my skill set in Flash is growing daily I can not take credit for all of the animation. I owe that to few good freinds who have helped me out along the way. Enjoy – S

Some past work
June 18, 2007
I was getting ready to archive some of my old files and came across these pieces that I put together for Starz Entertainment!
The Ludacris standee was created as promotional material for WAM!’s “Jacked” program, which was hosted by “Luda” himself. From what I hear he liked the mini standees so much that he had a life size one made and put in his house. Awesome! Wouldn’t that be a nice pic to add to the site?
The Adam Sandler illustrations on the other hand didn’t see the light of day but, I liked the work and thought that they deserved to be posted somewhere. Enjoy – S

H3EXT: Holy Hip Hop Extreme 2007
June 6, 2007
Here is a flyer that I just completed for my “New Beginnings” client. They are having a Hip Hop concert weekend, July 20th – 21st, in Denver, CO. The overall feel they wanted for the flyer was “Young Urban Street”. The graphics were to represent the “Showcases” that they will be holding through out the weekend, such as Emceing, Break Dancing, DJ’ing and Graffiti Art. If ya can go check it out!

“No More!”
June 6, 2007
This tutorial will demonstrate the process I used to complete this particular project “No More”, shown below. I hope that it’s informative.

Step 1
I start by scanning the pencil sketch into Photoshop. After scanning is complete I start to clean up the image a bit by taking out some of the unwanted smudges that are left by your hands while drawing. I then proceed to title the layer “Line Art”, then apply the “Multiply” filter in the Layers Palette and finally lock the layer.

Step 2
I then create a new layer below the “Line Art” layer and title it “Base Colors”. I then lay down the based colors for each section. This step gives me a basic idea of the final composition.

Step 3
Then I create another layer above the “Base Colors” layer and title it “Shading”, then apply the “Multiply” filter. I then begin to pull the mid-tones together and start to give the picture some depth.

Step 4
I now start to pull some of the darker values out by defining the shadow areas. Create yet another layer above the “Shading” layer and title it “Shadows”. Try to stay away from straight black by using a mixture of deeper primary colors. This will help you to not make the image muddy.

Step 5
After I have established my shadow areas I start to fill in my detail areas and highlights. These will help in adding even more depth to the illustration. I added a black eye, hand marks and redness to the skin to show that he had been abused. The highlights that I added helped emphasis that the boys skin was sweety.

Step 6
To finish off the illustration I play with the “Hue and Saturation” a bit. Sometimes they can take your illustration in a completely different direction. In the case of this image I like the way it made the boy look frightened and worn down. Almost as though he had been beaten or pushed to his breaking point.
