No more work!

July 25, 2008

Me Madre’s last day at work was today and I wanted to congratulate her on not having to go to work for a while. Congrats, you big quitter!

Now, for the last seven days I’ve been creating desktops for her to use as kind of a countdown at work. The images below are what I came up with. Some of my first thoughts when thinking about numbers and counting down were of TV shows that I watched when I was a kid, like Sesame Street (#6) and School House Rock (#3). The others were just oddball images that popped into my head while counting. I know… weird. Any how, I think that they came out pretty well. Mom sure liked them! – S

A couple of months ago I was contracted by Barb, an old co-worker, over at Starz. She asked me if I could put a few vector illustrations together to go with their new “Movie Lover” campaign for the Encore Channel. She showed me the final print materials and I have to say they came out great! The illustrations were also used in their on-air promotions. Who knows, you might have seen them.

Thanks Barb for keeping me in mind. – S

So, yesterday I fell victim to another case of “Mac Whoritis“. Along with thousands of others across the country/world I set out to get the latest iPhone 3G. Expecting the Apple stores around town to have crowds in the hundreds I headed out to the AT&T store closest to my house at 6:30 a.m. and told myself that if there were more than 30 people in line I was just going to go back home and try my luck in a week or so. When I got to the store there were only 32 people in line so I decided to try my luck. With the store opening in just over an hour at 8 a.m. everyone seemed upbeat. The people around me were pretty cool. We were all still rubbing the sleep out of our eyes. As time grew closer to the 8 a.m. store opening I as well as a few other started to get a little frustrated and nervous towards the amount of people that were showing up and jumping in line with friends that were ahead of us. Annoying! I was now 46th in line due to these A-holes that couldn’t get their lazy asses up in time to join the line themselves. We were frustrated and nervous because the AT&T reps came out earlier and told us that they only had 60 phones for sale that day. The also went on to say that out of that 60 they only had 30 16gig iphones and people who didn’t get one today could order one and have it delivered in about a week or come back tomorrow. Way to stock up!

Anyway, 8 o’clock finally arrived and the store started to let people in and buy that time there were about 100+ people in line. It was a slow process because they were only letting in 6 people at a time but thankfully when I finally got to the counter they still had 2 white 16gig iphones left. So at 8:35 a.m. I snatched mine up and headed home. The upgrading and activation process went fairly smooth. Even though the iTunes install server was getting bombarded and crashing I was fortunate to be up and running by about 10:30 a.m. That was not the case for many others.

My assumption about the Apple stores being slammed was correct. I went to the Cherry Creek Apple store at about 3:30 p.m. to get a new case for my phone and lo-n-behold there was still a line of about 500+ people. Thankfully I didn’t have to stand in it to get in.

I really like the new iPhone 3G and App store but wish that Apple or someone would make a video recorder for this thing. T-Moble has a few why don’t we? It would also be nice to view picture messages directly on the phone without having to log into viewmymessage.com every single time. It’s so slow.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day! Here are some pics of my newest toy!! Peace – S
